This project was created during my part-time studying (11/2017-06/2018) in the Hong Kong Design Institute. There are two main inspirations for me to design it. One is mix of different materials. Another One is the architectural design and structural design of concrete plinths. Hand-made unique texture concrete combined with factory’s fabrication is one of the ways to represent the uniqueness of furniture. The 6 load-bearing points under the seat are made reference of the design of concrete plinths, just like the design of chilled water air handling unit placed on the several concrete plinths in the car park or roof. This design can enhance the sense of space because the contact areas between concrete seat and chair frame can be reduced a lot. People can easily see the whole structure of MIX Chair and enjoy the architecture and construction aesthetics within the design.
